World Champs Home Stays

Elite Athlete Homestay Information & Registration

We are currently taking expressions of interest from local Snowy Mountains residents who would like to invite international and interstate athletes into their homes during the ITU Cross Triathlon World Champs.  Host families are asked to provide accommodation free of charge to athletes, and whilst they may wish to also assist with meals and transport, they are not obliged to do so.

Homestay opportunities are available for athletes aged 18 and over, who are racing in the elite/U23, Paratriathlon and Junior U19 ITU World Championship races.  If you would like to register your interest in finding a homestay, simply complete the online registration form.  Our homestay coordinator will match you with a compatible homestay and provide details so that you and your host are able to get to know each other and make arrangements for the homestay.

Host Families

Homestay opportunities are being sought for international and interstate elite athletes travelling to the Snowy Mountains for the ITU Cross Triathlon World Championships & the Snowies Mountain Bike Festival – 17-20 November & 25-27 November 2016.

Dates

Homestays are being sought for the period between Friday 11 November and Monday 28 November.  Athletes’ length of stay will vary from 4 days to the whole period.

What is the athlete expecting from a homestay?

Travelling as a pro-triathlete is expensive, and many elites will find it difficult to find the money to cover all the costs associated with travelling to the Snowy Mountains.  A homestay opportunity is a huge helping hand for athletes who don’t have the funds to cover a hotel room.  Athletes do not expect a homestay to be a 5-star hotel experience!

If you have a spare bedroom and you are happy to share your bathroom and kitchen facilities with an international or interstate guest, then your home is suitable!  Homestay hosts are not obliged to provide transportation and meals for athletes.  How you are able to assist in this regard will be up to you, however it is important that the host is upfront and clear about aspects such as this, so that athletes can be matched with a suitable homestay.

Benefits of providing a homestay

A homestay is not just a helping hand for the athletes.  It is also a unique opportunity that offers many benefits to the host family.

  • Host families are provided a fantastic opportunity to see first-hand the behind the scenes activities of a professional athlete, as well as the opportunity to find out all you have ever wanted to know about racing and the life of an elite athlete.
  • Athletes travelling internationally will be excited to introduce their host family to a variety of different foods and new and exciting lifestyles.
  • If you didn’t already have someone to cheer for in the race for the 2016 World Championship – now you do!! Your athlete will love having you and your family (and all your friends) there on race day cheering them on.
  • Meet a fantastic person! Our professional triathletes bring with them a broad range of experiences and stories to share.  Your athlete could be an U19 Junior who is racing in their first World Championship, the reigning Cross Triathlon World Champion, an elite Paratriathlete or an Olympic medallist.
