ICYMI: AquaBike & Duathlon Formats to feature at ALL TreX Events in 2017/18

BRISBANE—Following up on successful events in February 2017, Australia’s National Off Road Triathlon Series will feature both an AquaBike and Duathlon formats at ALL seven TreX Events in 2017/18.  The market has asked for it and TreX is delivering.

In2Adventure has long had a reputation for making every effort to listen to, and respond to feedback from competitors and this latest initiative to include both AquaBike and Duathlon formats at all seven TreX events in 2017/18 cpmes on the back of trial events in 2016/17.

The TreX Series will still feature the dedicated duathlon event as Race 1 on 20th August with a Trail Run | MTB | Trail Run format, however now participants have the option at EVERY TreX event to take part in either a duathlon format that will include a Mountain Bike and then Trail Run or an AquaBike format with a Swim and Mountain Bike.

Event Director Robyn Lazenby told us that these new initiatives have been launched in response to market feedback and trial events in 2016/17.  They are also strongly driven by In2Adventure’s corporate principle of ‘Participation’.

We are always looking to our competitors for their ideas and feedback and the TreX Series as it stands today, ten years after we launched the series in Australia is a result of always trying to make every effort to listen to, and more importantly ACT on competitors feedback.

We were aware that the run element of a triathlon can for some people be a barrier to participation, especially for those who have experienced knee or ankle injuries in their sporting career.

The AquaBike format means that those who perhaps have an injury and are unable to run can still take part in a TreX event.

In terms of the duathlon, one of TreX  key market demographics are our mountain bikers looking to use their skills but to do something a little bit different.  The swim is often a barrier to entry for this section of the market, so what the duathlon format provides is an opportunity to come along and discover the thrill of Off Road triathlon racing and hopefully then provide the incentive to put a ‘toe in the water’ so to speak,”

With the introduction of the duathlon and aquabike format in 2017/18 as well as offering Standard, Sprint, Junior, Teaser and Dirt Kids Courses Australia’s home grown off road series is offering an opportunity for all comers to be a part of Australia’s most exciting sport.

So if swimming or running isn’t quite your thing, but you love off road events it’s time to Get In2 the TreX AquaBike and TreX Duathlon events across the country in 2017/18.

March 31st, 2017 / Media Release, News

March 30, 2017

After a huge year hosting the 2016 ITU Cross Triathlon World Champs Australia’s National Cross Triathlon Series, TreX is back and ready to explode into a new triathlon season with an even bigger, action packed series in 2017|18.

2017|18 sees the launch of no less than 7 not to be missed events across the country which includes:

  • An ALL NEW event location;
  • New event formats;
  • The revival of the TreX Duathlon; and
  • The all new Standard and Sprint course AquaBike.

This season also sees the introduction of TreX Platinum events which hold extra weighting for the much sought after series championships awards which will include the best four races across the season.

Couple this with our usual Dirt Fest MultiSport Weekends and you’ve got one massive year of off road action coming your way!

“After having to drop some of the TreX events in 2016 due to the hosting of the ITU World Champs, it was so exciting to get back into planning the 2017/18 Season where we could bring back some of the old favourites our TreX family know and love, but even more exciting is the development of the series with a new world class event in the spectacular Port Stephens Region.

Port Stephens is one of Australia’s hidden treasures and we so look forward to showcasing the spectacular coastline, terrain and natural beauty of the NSW Coast at this all new TreX event.” Robyn Lazenby, In2Adventure event director told us.

TreX is Australia’s National Cross Triathlon Series and has been championing this new and exciting form of triathlon for over ten years.  Starting with humble beginnings in 2007, the event has continued to grow and develop and a highlight for the series was a successful bid to bring the ITU World Champs downunder in 2016, marking the first time that the ITU has awarded this prestigious event to a country in the southern hemisphere.

“The ITU World Champs was a real showcase for our sport in Australia, and 2017/18 season is the next stage in our long-term plan to develop and grow the sport of cross triathlon downunder.”  Simon Lazenby, in2adventure race director told us.

One Day Entry Special: Monday 3rd April

The new season will kick off with a ‘not to be missed’ one day entry special including a special series gift pack for participants who enter either the National or Queensland Series on Monday 3rd April. plus massive discounts of up to 23% on the already discounted early bird entry prices for all events.

The 2017|18 season will include seven key events with standard, sprint, junior, teaser, dirt kids and aquabike events at most races.  Platinum events will also include a Dirt Fest weekend where participants can indulge their passion for all things off road including mountain biking and trail running for all ages and abilities.

New AquaBike Test Event to be Launched at TreX Qld on 11th February

BRISBANE—In breaking news from In2Adventure, the TreX Series is set to launch an all new off road race at it’s event in Queensland on 11th February 2017.  The market has asked for an AQUABIKE format and HERE IT IS!

In2Adventure has long had a reputation for listening to and responding to its customers and this latest initiative, the AquaBike, is set to be launched in response to customer ideas and feedback.  To be honest when we
first heard of ‘AquaBike’ we weren’t really sure exactly what it was, would competitors be racing on peddle bikes on the water?  We weren’t sure, so we went straight to the source.

“Put quite simply the AquaBike is a form of triathlon which includes two disciplines only, a swim plus a mountain bike.  It’s a Triathlon without the run,” Simon Lazenby, Race Director at In2Adventure told us.

He also went on to add, “The suggestion was put to us by one of our long time TreX Family members, Tim Whitburn who currently works for Giant Bikes on the Sunshine Coast.  After a bit of discussion we thought it could potentially be a good idea and thought we’d put it to our participants to see what they thought.  After just a day on social media, the responses were incredible and the response was overwhelmingly positive, so in true In2Adventure fashion we decided to give it a go and make it happen.”

The event will be launching with a trial event at the State and National Championships to be hosted on Queensland’s spectacular Sunshine Coast on 11-12 February, this year.  The course will include the same action packed swim and mountain bike course of the standard distance triathlon, however the AquaBike will not be a part of the Queensland state or Australian national titles.

This will be a test event only to gauge interest and possible future sustainability of the event, either as part of each TreX event, or possibly as a standalone event as part of the TreX Series.” Robyn Lazenby, Event Director at In2Adventure told us. She also added, ” It’s always such a great thrill to receive ideas and suggestions from the people who take part in our events, but even more exciting to be able to make them happen and give it a go. The market has asked for it, so now it’s time for those who’d like to see an AquaBike event continue to get behind it at the test event in February.”

The AquaBike event will include a 1500m Swim which includes two laps of the 750m course in Ewen Maddock Dam, followed by a 30km XC MTB which takes in the newly developed flowing single tracks within Beerwah State forest in a course which is both challenging for hardcore riders and achievable for those newer to the sport of Mountain Biking.

It’s the perfect course to launch an AquaBike event, and a lot of people have told us that they had to give up Triathlon because due to injury they were unable to run anymore.  The AquaBike offers an opportunity for those in this situation to still be a part of the action and stay connected to the triathlon community.” Simon added.

As well as the TreX Triathlon event being one of the major events on the 2017 calendar that includes both State and National Championships and a qualification race for the ITU World XTri Championships in 2017, Simon told us that the event also includes a family MultiSport Festival with trail run and mountain bike events for the entire family.

“From the littlest Mud Rats and Dirt Kids, to our Juniors and Sprint competitors right up to our hardcore Dirt Masters and Dirt Mistresses who will be tackling 3 hardcore events across 2 days the weekend has something for all comers.

It is exciting to be able to present one festival across one weekend that has so much to offer including, a state championship, a national championship, a world championship qualification event, the state dirt master championship, a whole weekend of off road adventure with events for the entire family and now the option of an Aquabike!”

So if you love swimming and you love mountain biking time to GetIn2 the TreX AquaBike event on the Sunshine Coast this February.

TreX Qld Named as 2017 National and State Championships

BRISBANE—In breaking news from Triathlon Australia TreX Qld has been named as the 2017 Australian National and Queensland State cross triathlon championships.  Set to be hosted on Queensland’s spectacular Sunshine Coast on 11-12th February, this ‘not to be missed’ event will also be a qualification round for the World Championships in Canada in 2017.

After the hosting of the highly successful 2016 ITU World Championships, this is yet another milestone for event company In2Adventure who have long been championing the sport of cross triathlon in Australia.

“We are so excited to be able to announce the Queensland event as the 2017 National and State Championships.  After the disappointment of having to cancel the event in the Snowy Mountains after Triathlon NSW scheduled a major club championships on the same date, it is so great to have the opportunity to be able to offer our competitors a National Championship in 2017 at such a fantastic venue.  We would like to acknowledge the support of Triathlon Australia in approving our submission to make this happen.”  Robyn Lazenby, event director told us.

We were also keen to find out from the event directors what the new 2017 National & State Championship course has to offer competitors racing for a state and national title.

“The amazing thing about cross triathlon is that every course is different and each has something unique and exciting to offer.  The course on the Sunshine Coast is one of the most picturesque of the series, especially with the beautiful fern filled rainforest setting in Beerwah State Forest and Ewen Maddock Dam.

The mountain bike course is a 10km lap that takes in the newly developed trails within Beerwah State Forest.  The course tests riders skills and endurance as they shred it around the flowing single tracks.  Some key challenges include pinchy, rocky climbs, craggy descents, bridges, creek crossings and fast flowing single tracks.  We have also added a number of new fire trail sections to this years course to offer riders greater passing opportunities between the fast single track sections.

The trail run is one of my personal favourites with most the trail running on winding single track through the ferned rainforest.  It includes uneven, rocky trails, a creek crossing, some open trails and, of course, more of what we love most about cross triathlon… Wet & Muddy sections!”

The event is also set to attract some big names including international great and reigning Australian National Champion Ben Allen who will be travelling to Queensland for the championships,

“It’s going to be an action packed multi-sport weekend of racing at the Aussie Cross Champs on the Sunshine Coast, looking forward to shredding the single track and defending my National title, can’t wait to hang out with the In2adveture crew and enjoy all things off road,” said Allen.

Other key contenders include reigning series champions Brodie Gardiner, U23 World Champs silver medalists Max Neumann and U19 Junior World Champs silver medalist Dean Cane who will have the advantage of racing on home territory.

As well as being one of the major events on the 2017 calendar for Triathlon, Simon Lazenby Race Director told us that the event also includes a family MultiSport Festival with triathlon, trail run and mountain bike events for the entire family.

“From the littlest Mud Rats and Dirt Kids, to our Juniors and Sprint competitors right up to our hardcore Dirt Masters and Dirt Mistresses who will be tackling 3 hardcore events across 2 days the weekend has something for all comers.

It is exciting to be able to present an event across one weekend that has so much to offer including, a state championship, a national championship, a world championship qualification event, the state dirt master championship, plus a whole weekend of off road adventure with events for the entire family.”

So if you love the dirt, if you love the outdoors and you love getting off the beaten track, this is the ‘not to be missed’ off road weekend adventure for you.
